Privacy Policy

Unbounded Cloud ("we", "us") builds free tools and data services on top of open government data. This policy explains what information is processed when you use our websites and what choices you have.

Who we are

Unbounded Cloud operates unbounded-cloud.com and its tool subdomains: NI Fuel Prices, the NI Rates Calculator, the MOT Checker, the Take-Home Pay Calculator and Warm NI (the energy grants checker). You can reach us at [email protected].

Information we process

We aim to collect as little personal information as possible.

• Information you enter into a tool — for example a postcode in the Rates Calculator, a vehicle registration in the MOT Checker, a salary figure in the Take-Home Pay Calculator, or your answers in the Energy Grants Checker. These inputs are used solely to return the result you asked for and to query the relevant public data source. We do not use them to identify you and we do not build profiles from them.
• Calculations happen in the moment and are not stored. The Take-Home Pay Calculator and the Energy Grants Checker work out your result from the figures you supply and then discard them — nothing you type into either tool is written to a database or kept after the page is served. Where a result appears in the page address, that is simply so the page can be bookmarked or shared, and it stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
• Price reports — if you use "Report a different price" on NI Fuel Prices, we store the forecourt, the price you saw and any note you add, together with your browser type and a shortened IP address (the last part is removed) to help us spot abuse.
• "Use my location" — on NI Fuel Prices, if you choose to share your location, your browser sends it to our server (only with your permission), and we convert it to a postcode area using OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. We keep a cache of postcode areas against coordinates rounded to roughly 100 metres so repeat lookups are faster; this is not linked to you.
• Standard server logs — like most websites, our servers automatically record technical details such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and a timestamp. These are used for security, abuse prevention and to keep the service running.
• We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect names, email addresses or payment details through normal use of the tools.

Cookies and advertising

Our sites are supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people use our sites and which pages are most useful. It does not use cookies or similar storage on your device, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. It records page views along with general technical details such as browser, device type, country and page load speed. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for more.

Third-party data sources

Our tools query public data sources to produce results (for example the UK Government fuel price scheme, Land & Property Services rating data, and the DVSA MOT service). When you use a tool, the relevant query is sent to that source to retrieve the answer. Those organisations operate under their own privacy policies.

The price map on NI Fuel Prices is drawn with map tiles from OpenFreeMap (map data © OpenStreetMap contributors), and some page components are loaded from the jsDelivr content network. When your browser fetches these files, those services receive your IP address as part of normal web traffic.

Data retention

Server logs are retained only for as long as needed for security and operational purposes and are then deleted or anonymised. Tool inputs are processed in the moment and are not stored against your identity. The MOT Checker keeps recent vehicle lookups in memory for up to six hours so repeat searches don't need to query the DVSA again; this is cleared automatically and is not linked to you. Price reports are kept so we can review and correct prices.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EU, data protection law gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct or erase it. Because we do not maintain user accounts, we hold very little information that could identify you; contact us if you have a specific request.

Children

Our services are general-purpose information tools and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date above.
